Ft. McDowell Casino's Noodles Sushiya

Sushi and gambling? What a combination. Now you don’t have to go all the way to Vegas. Just head to Ft. McDowell and check out Noodles Sushiya in the non-smoking section of the casino. Like noodles? You have your choice of various types of Chinese, Japanese, Thai, and Vietnamese noodles. The full sushi bar is great also – I recommend the spicy tuna. Happy Hour is Sunday through Thursday from 4 – 7 p.m., and Friday and Saturday offers a Reverse Happy Hour from 10 p.m. to midnight. During Happy Hour, I recommend the well-stuffed handrolls for $2.95.

If you are gambling at the tables or slots in the non-smoking section, you can order from the sushi/noodles bar and your order will be delivered to you on a mobile serving tray. This allows you to, as the casino advertises, “play with your food.” And if you are sitting at the bar celebrating your winnings (or mourning your losses), you are also in for a neat experience. There is a video camera placed high above the bar which provides an aerial view of the sushi chef as he or she prepares your sushi which is projected onto a flat screen tv for your viewing pleasure. When I was there I had the choice of watching Japanese anime (also on flat screen tvs) or the sushi chef prepare my sushi. Guess which one had me mesmerized.

And that’s right, I said he or she! I was pleased to make the acquaintance of Jackie, the first American female sushi chef I have met during my sushi adventures. Jackie makes a mean spicy yellowtail roll – be sure to say hello from MakiMom if she is preparing your sushi.

Good luck and good eating!
